About The “Jawai Dam”

The Jawai Bandh, a dam constructed across the Jawai river, near Sumerpur town in Pali district (Rajasthan) is one of the largest reservoirs in Rajasthan India. Built by King Umaid Singh Ji of Jodhpur in 1956-1957 with an aim to pump water for irrigation, this reservoir has since then been supplying water to Jodhpur (Rajasthan) and villages in Pali and Jalore districts. The dam is spread over an area of 500 square KM and has a height of around 61 feet.

The place is a treasure trove for nature and wildlife lovers for its captivating topography, Hills Riding, Crocodile Sighting, Village Safari, Wildlife Safari, Jawai Dam Visit, Migratory Birds, Birthday Celebration, and Night Stay activities. The landscape of the dam is filled with granite hills, scattered boulders, caves, with a stream passing through the middle, dividing the landscape. The granite hills are believed to have been formed millions of years ago. The place is famous for attracting many winged visitors, especially the iconic sarus cranes. Visitors also have the option of camping here.
